What is the difference between a bedspread and a coverlet?

The main difference between a bedspread and a coverlet is the length. A bedspread will reach all the way to the ground where a coverlet will typically hit the top of the bed skirt. A bedspread is a more traditional look, like shown in the white bed image below. Many of the brands we carry have moved away from bed spreads and have transitioned to carrying coverlets since so many beds are now platform and lower to the ground.

 

A coverlet is a great layering piece because it can be paired with a blanket for extra warmth during the cooler months. For example dress your bed with the Pearl Coverlet shown below and add the Dream Modal under the coverlet for an extra layer of coziness.

 

I have an extra thick mattress with a topper. Do I need to purchase an extra deep fitted sheet?

Depending on just how thick your mattress is you won’t need to purchase a fitted sheet that is extra deep. Many fitted sheets account for a thicker mattress and have 17″ pockets. That being said, if you need we do have sheets available that are extra deep. For example, SDH Legna carries fitted sheets that are 13.5” and then supreme fitted sheets with a gusset of 17”. If you find your sheet is too big for your mattress you can always tuck the extra fabric underneath.
