Coffee With Bedside: Getting Down with Down

Our August Down Sale is here so we dedicated this week’s “Coffee With Bedside” to questions related to down products. We know down comforters and pillows can be a hard choice to make, so we are here to help you find the right product for the best night’s sleep!
During August, save 20% on ALL down products and essentials. It really is a great time to invest in quality basics for your home.
How do you choose the right pillow?
We offer three down pillows: light, medium and firm density. Below is a break-down on pillow recommendations depending on how you sleep at night. The medium weight is our most-popular!
- Soft density: recommended for stomach sleepers
- Medium density: recommended for back sleepers
- Firm Density: recommended for side sleepers
Our down pillows are made in the US with 600 Fill Power, 360 Thread Count, and 100% cotton ticking. There is an extra cleaning process that sanitizes the fill and eliminates any bacteria or odor, which creates a clean, hypo-allergenic product that is less likely to create an allergic reaction than regular pillows. No matter which pillow you end up purchasing, be sure to use a pillow protector to keep the life of the pillow longer. The pillow protectors are machine washable for easy care!

What is the difference between down and down alternative?
The main difference between the two products is the contents inside the comforters and pillows. Down products are typically made from goose down and down alternative are made from a poly-fiber.
Our down comforters are made in the US with 670 Fill Power, 230 Thread Count, and 100% cotton baffle box construction. Similar to the down pillows, the extra cleaning process creates a hypo-allergenic product that is less likely to create an allergic reaction, unlike other down products you may find in the market. In addition, the baffle box construction eliminates shifting to maintain the proper temperature. Finally, many of our customers prefer their duvets to be extra fluffy, so we created over-sized inserts to fit most duvet covers and avoid shifting. Read a little more on shifting in last week’s Coffee With Bedside!
The Arcadia down alternative comforter by Sferra is a staple at Bedside Manor Ltd. Not only does this item feel similar to down, but it is a great value for the price. It is perfect for people who do have a down allergy! Similar to down, the techno-fibers give a thermal insulating property. In addition, the baffled construction allows room for the hypoallergenic Micro-fiber fill to breathe, keeping it fresh and helping to maintain the warming properties.
Do I need to change my comforter during the summer and winter?
This is a personal preference and really depends on how you tend to sleep. Some people like having a lighter down comforter during the warmer months, especially if they live in a warmer climate or if you get really hot at night. Others keep their medium weight all year since they use air conditioning or rotate different layers on the bed, ie. blankets, coverlets, etc.
Light weight: perfect for those who keep the thermostat above 75 degrees.
Medium weight: perfect for sleepers who keep the thermostat between 68-75 degrees
An alternative to switching out your comforter is investing in an all-season comforter. Our luxury down comforter combines 750 fill power with German Cambric Cotton baffle boxed construction. This luxury item breathes well in the summer and traps heat when needed in the winter, making this the ultimate luxurious ALL-SEASON comforter.
We hope this helps answer your questions. Don’t forget to shop the Annual Down Sale!
