How to Prep Your Home For Holiday Guests
We all know how chaotic life can get during the holidays. It can be difficult to find time to prep your home with all the holiday parties, endless shopping lists and busy work schedules. As a result, how do you set time aside to tidy up the guest bedroom for incoming guests?
We put together a few easy ways to spruce up your guest bedroom for family and friends visiting during the holiday season. Bonus: these beautiful items can easily transition to different spaces in your home and are well-priced. Guests will feel right at home in no-time.
Preparing your guest room for the holidays can help ensure that your visitors feel welcome, comfortable, and at home during their stay. Here’s our guide to getting your guest room holiday-ready:
1. Clean and Declutter
- Clean: Start by cleaning the guest room to make sure the space feels fresh and inviting.
- Declutter: Clear out unnecessary items that might be taking up space. You want your guests to feel like they have room for their belongings. This includes clearing off nightstands, tables, and a little closet space.
2. Comfortable Bedding
- Fresh Linens: Put on clean, soft sheets, pillowcases, and blankets. Our shops are stocked with white sheet sets in various sizes so that you can take them home today. Hosting out of state? We can express ship as well to ensure your sheets arrive just in time. A few of our stocked sets include:
- Extra Pillows and Blankets: Add extra pillows and blankets for comfort, especially for colder months. Make sure they’re easy for your guests to find and use.
- Mattress Comfort: If the mattress is getting old, consider adding a mattress topper for extra support and comfort.
- Royal Pedic Topper – shop here.
3. Provide Storage Space
- Closet Space: Make sure your guests have room to hang their clothes. Clear out a few hangers, and perhaps even add a small luggage rack or a shelf for their suitcase.
- Drawer Space: Empty out at least a couple of drawers so your guests can unpack if they prefer.
4. Stock Up on Essentials
- Towels: Provide fresh bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths. Hang them up or neatly fold them and place them on the bed. Come in store and grab a set today!
- Toiletries: Stock the bathroom with essential toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, etc).
- Add a Robe: To really elevate your guests’ experience (and to lock in your five star rating) we recommend providing a robe. At Bedside, our top selling robes include:
5. Technology & Entertainment
- Wi-Fi Details: Leave a card or small sign with the Wi-Fi password on it, so guests can easily access the internet without needing to ask.
- Books or Magazines: Consider placing a small selection of books or holiday-themed magazines on the nightstand for your guests to enjoy. A few books we can’t put down?
- The Women by Kristin Hannah
- The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride
A must read! Story follows an inspirational female nurse during the Vietnam War. |
Another outstanding novel by James McBride that has numerous awards! |
6. Temperature Control
- Adjust the Thermostat: Make sure the room is at a comfortable temperature before your guests arrive. You might want to set the heat to a cozy level or provide a space heater if it’s cold, or a fan if it’s warmer.
- Extra Warmth: Provide extra layers, like a warm throw blanket for extra comfort.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season!
