Trip Of A Lifetime: Visit To Quinta De Lemos
Last month, the Bedside Manor Ltd managers got to experience a trip of a lifetime and visit Quinta de Lemos, home of Abyss & Habidecor and Celso de Lemos. We came back filled with so much gratitude and appreciation for this incredible company, and can’t wait to share a little of the trip with you!
We landed in Lisbon on a Sunday morning and spent the day exploring the city by walking the cobblestone streets, breathing in the warm air, and soaking in the beauty of the culture and old world architecture.
Our Chicago manager, Karen, in front of our lovely hotel.
The Hotel do Chiado was located in the Barrio Alto neighborhood, which was walking distance to great sites, shopping and wonderful restaurants.
The city was in full bloom-so lovely!
We had to snap a picture of the linens air drying on the balcony!
The Time Out Market is a must-see when you are in Lisbon. We stopped in for lunch and souvenirs before heading to our evening activity! In the evening, we set sail with the group and enjoyed wine, cheese and beautiful views of the city! It was such a lovely evening to kick-off our trip by learning about Portuguese history from a local’s point of view.
The next morning we said goodbye to Lisbon and set out on our journey to Viseu, a city approximately 2.5 hours north east of the city, for the main event of the trip. Mr. Celso de Lemos, the master behind Abyss & Habidecor, invited us to his beautiful home to experience the behind the scenes of his company. He has so much pride for his country and the luxurious products that he produces, and it was such a pleasure to spend time with him and his wonderful team.
Abyss Habidecor is known for their luxury towels and bath mats, and most recently the bedding under Celso de Lemos. Bedside Manor has carried the line for many years, so it was quite the experience to see all the products in person at the showroom. We were in bedding and bath heaven!
Just look at all the color, textures, and patterns!
As you can see, Abyss & Habidecor is not afraid to add color into the home. All the designs are so unique and eye-catching! We spent the rest of the afternoon going over the new catalogs and products. We can’t wait to bring the newness into Bedside Manor Ltd this fall. Plus, it is always fun to get to work with the managers from each of the stores. We rarely get to brainstorm with one another.
After the meeting at Abyss & Habidecor, we drove to Quinta de Lemos, Celso’s hotel, restaurant and vineyard where we got to stay each night. Along with Celso’s luxury bedding and bath line, he has perfected the art of hospitality. The hotel is set on a hill that overlooks the vineyard. The design aesthetic of the hotel combines modern with organic which reflects the natural beauty of the surrounding vineyard. Understated elegance.
And if the views weren’t enough, we got to sleep on the Celso bedding each night. From the large windows over looking the property, to the perfectly placed towels, no detail was left behind. You can read a little more about Quinta de Lemos here.
In the evenings during our stay we walked the vineyard, relaxed in our rooms and sipped on the delicious wine. We would then dine with Celso at his home and eat from his freshly picked garden. Truly an unforgettable experience.
The breathtaking view from dinner
Testing out wine with Celso!
The rest of the trip was spent touring the factories where all the products are made. It is amazing to see firsthand how much handwork, care and inspection goes into each finished piece. What starts from just a spool of yarn eventually turns into a beautifully designed bath rug.
Spools of yarns are fed into a massive machine and then programmed to a loom to design the below bath rug. So cool!
See above for the Malibu Bath Rug at the end of the loom.
We all came back from the trip full of inspiration and appreciation for the craftmanship and passion behind the Abyss & Habidecor company. Thank you, Celso and the Abyss & Habidecor team for such a once in a lifetime experience.
