Over the last three decades, Bedside Manor Ltd.’s focus and dedication on sourcing and selecting the most luxurious products has not wavered.

At Bedside, it has always been the quality of a product – material, craftsmanship, and tradition – that we believe creates something beautiful. So, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for the industry, Meg and her former college roommate opened the first location with a focus on Brass Beds, Amish Quilts, and fine European Linens.

And although the brass has been swapped for sustainable wood, and the quilts replaced with coverlets, it is the emphasis on sourcing the finest Europeans linens and the highest quality products

…that has evolved into Bedside Manor Ltd. becoming the premier supplier for fine elegant bedding and luxuries for the home.

Meg opens the first Bedside Manor Ltd. store in Long Grove, IL in 1985 alongside her former business partner and college roommate. In the beginning, the focus was primarily on Brass beds, Amish quilts, and European linens such as Yves Delorme. The store was one of the nation’s pioneer boutique linen shops that brought European linens to the states!

 

 

Understanding the demand of the market, Meg decides to expand the business and open the second location in one of Chicago’s most established neighborhoods, Lincoln Park. Now celebrating its 31^st year, this location has been an anchor within the popular Halsted and Armitage shopping district. The store also holds a very special place in the company’s history, as this is where and when Meg’s husband, Michael, joins the Bedside executive team.

 

Due to the success of the prior five years, Meg and Michael continue to explore innovative ways of expanding their business. The couple decides to build upon the growing brand and begin production on the Bedside Manor Ltd. Private Label line. Comprised of both fine linens and down, the collection introduces timeless bedding essentials that are “Setting the Style for Sleep”.

 

And over the last thirty years, these staples have earned a devout following within the Bedside customer base – to no one’s surprise! The percale and linen sheets are crafted in Italy with the highest quality Egyptian cotton and finished with an elegant hemstitch. And the private label down is produced in the U.S. with European White Goose Down and is oversized to perfectly fit most duvet covers to avoid shifting.

Looking to further expand the footprint of Bedside Manor Ltd., Meg and Michael look to the suburbs of Chicago to open their next location. They decide to land in Winnetka, specifically within the Hubbard Woods Design District. And upon opening the doors, they were pleasantly surprised to see some familiar faces from the Lincoln Park store – as the customers had also moved North to the suburbs with growing families!

The Winnetka store has now been a stronghold within Hubbard Woods for twenty-five years and has earned a reputation as the premiere bedding boutique on the North Shore. With a sizable floorplan, the location features a large display of some of our top furniture brands as well as gorgeous vignettes focused on the master bedroom.

 

Now with a base in Chicago and the North Shore, Bedside Manor Ltd. hopes to expand its customer base with a location in the Western suburb of Hinsdale. Located in the heart of the quaint little town, the store remains open for seventeen years.

 

But with innovation top of mind, Meg and Michael decide to close the Hinsdale doors to explore the rapidly growing marketplace of ecommerce. The website, shopbedside.com, is officially live in 2010. And just a few years following, the site undergoes a complete re-haul in 2017 to ensure the Bedside customer base is always receiving the best service – both in-store and online.

The business continues to grow within the northern suburbs with a location opening in the town of Lake Forest. This location is one of the larger shops and gains inspiration from the preppy community. The Lake Forest team loves to play with different colors and styles – so it is no surprise that the store boasts stunning bedroom displays that almost always include a pop of color.

And after 35 years we’re proud of where we’ve been and excited about where we’re going as we challenge ourselves to continue providing customers with the inspiration to create bedding ensembles that make a house feel like a home, bath luxuries that titillate the senses, and furniture pieces that tell a story.
